Things to Know

Before being a part of this 100-hour Yoga Teacher Training Course

What is Hatha Yoga?

Hatha Yoga is the preliminary process of Yoga. The Sanskrit word Hatha is formed by the words “ha,” meaning sun, and "ta," meaning the moon. The word "Hatha" itself means yoga to bring balance between the sun and moon within oneself. To put it simply, Hatha Yoga is the branch of yoga that concerns the harmony of the body, mind, and spirit. It uses a set of physical postures and breathing techniques to try to preserve and channel vital force or energy. Hatha Yoga is an essential series of asanas in the beginner level of yoga practice. However, it is much more than just a simple asana practice. Hatha Yoga is the way to attain the ultimate stage of Samadhi—a stage where an individual becomes free from all the materialistic illusions.

Hatha Yoga Practice

The Hatha Yoga Practice in the 100-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Course teaches you the correct sequencing and breathing practice with different asanas. This course will allow you to attain the true benefits of Hatha Yoga under the expert guidance of our yoga instructors, who will be eager to help you at every step of your practice.

What is Vinyasa Yoga?

Vinyasa Yoga is linking movement with breath. It is also considered the free Ashtanga Vinyasa style. It is a style of yoga characterized by moving from one posture to another with correct breath synchronization. It is also often referred to as Power Yoga. One of the interesting things about Vinyasa classes is that you will never find any two classes similar. This is because of the wide variety of postures in them. Vinyasa Yoga is known to show variations in contrast to its counterpart yoga styles like Bikram Yoga or Ashtanga Yoga.

Vinyasa Yoga Practice

The 100-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Course includes both theoretical and practical sessions of Vinyasa Yoga. The practical sessions of Vinyasa Yoga Practice comprise the Vinyasa asana series, led by experienced instructors and yoga gurus. Though you might find the Vinyasa session a little difficult, at the end of it all, you will get to experience a deeper evolution of yourself.

What is Ashtanga Yoga?

Ashtanga consists of two Sanskrit words: "Ashta," meaning the number eight, and "Anga," meaning a limb or body part. Hence, Ashtanga is the union of the eight limbs of yoga into one holistic system. Basically, it is an eight-limbed path (yoga) towards achieving the state of yoga called Samadhi. Ashtanga Yoga aims to channel an individual's inner energy with the energy of his external world with the help of the right actions, meditation, discipline, and exercises. This style of yoga demands patience and discipline, in addition to physical strength and flexibility. However, regardless of whether you are beginning your yogic journey or learning the ins and outs of it in depth, practicing Ashtanga Yoga keeps your body and mind healthy and strong.

Ashtanga Yoga Practice

The Ashtanga Yoga class starts with Asana, which is the third limb of Ashtanga. Asana is basically a physical workout that helps make your mind and soul feel better while also allowing you to take better care of your physical body. The continuous sessions of Ashtanga Yoga Practice take you to the stage referred to as Sadhna (spiritual practice).

Detailed Syllabus - 100 Hour Yoga Teacher Training

Yoga is a holistic discipline that encompasses more than just physical postures, as it is a complete science that includes postures, breathing techniques, diet, and many more. It combines the appreciation of the anatomy and physiology with that of the practice of meditation and various forms of yoga. This in turn to enable provision of holistic health care to clients, is engaging in enshrinement of mind and body harmony apart from the body.

Yoga Anatomy and Physiology describe in detail how yoga affects the muscular, skeletal, and other systems in the body. When the structure of displaying the human body and 11 systemic systems is understood, the practitioners understand how Yoga postures influence different operations.

This process entails detailed examination of the skeletal, and muscular systems, respiratory, and circulatory system as well as the digestive system, the nervous system and endocrine personalities. Knowledge of such elements enables the formulation of correct yoga sequence and usage of the asanas with regard to the medical purpose in mind. The six purification procedures of yoga known as Shatkarma contribute a lot to yoga by cleaning the body for deeper practice. Coupled with the sensory, digestive and the circulatory system needs, it enhances the ability to provide a far more effective way of practising yoga.

Meditation is another important factor, which is used in yoga to boost one’s mental health and emotional wellbeing. This allows a practitioner to determine the form of meditation that suits him or her best depending on the type of therapy the person wants, including, Kaya Sthairyam (Body Steadiness), Breath Awareness Meditation, Ajapa Meditation, Trataka Meditation, Aum Meditation, Japa Meditation and Yoga Nidra. Prayer enables one to relax, to keep the focus on the present and to maintain a healthy state.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is an ancient practice that integrates mind and body through gentle, yet powerful techniques. It comprises the slow to moderate movements in which every position is maintained for a longer period of time enabling the development of strength, flexibility together with concentration. This type of yoga is very beneficial for the spiritual practice of meditation as well as for the physical and mental health of an individual thus increasing the feeling of happiness.

The word ‘Hatha’ is derived from the word ‘Ha’ which means ‘Sun’ and ‘Ta’ which means ‘Moon’, and also refers to ‘Force’ or ‘Effort’ which is the effort made to get mastery over the physical and mental divine powers of yoga. Hatha Yoga involves use of specific techniques such as pranayama, chanting and mudras with the most important aim of achieving a balance between the body and the mind.

It fixes its attention on aligning the body, however, some of the sequences are done in a dynamic, vigorous and rapid manner as is seen in the Surya Namaskar sequence where the poses are followed one after the other with limited time spent in holding a specific pose. This kind of dynamic and static movements make Hatha Yoga best for building up strength; at the same time it sharpens the brain and soothes the heart.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga has been described as being intense and each of the poses involves linking it with a set of movements. This continuous flow helps in energising the body and at the same time enhances the ability to concentrate in the mind.

The most popular technique of practice used today is called the ‘Mysore Style’ that was developed in Mysore, South India. This fashionable style has also resulted in off-shoots known as Power Yoga which is considered as a rigorous workout oriented method.

Pranayama

Pranayama is a form of ancient Yoga that involves conscious control of breath especially in a controlled breathe in and breathe out. The word Pranayama is derived from two words of Sanskrit origin; the word ‘Prana’ meaning life force or energy and the word ‘Yama’ meaning control. The deliberate regulation of breath attested in the practice of pranayama enables the proper management of the vital energy or prana that nourishes the physical and energetic aspects of being, as do pranayama.

The word “Pranayama” is formed by two parts; “Prana”: indicating breath or a life energy and “Ayama”: meaning extension; The general interpretation of pranayama therefore means breath control. It is one of the oldest works where the strongest effect gives the possibility to energise the human body and strengthen the mind. By practising Pranayama techniques, we strengthen and expand our lungs and increase the supply of oxygen to our brain while at the same time promoting and firming up the brain’s faculties of sound thinking, senses, and emotional balance, and peace of mind. The proper pacing of the breath ensures that practitioners’ inner strength is engaged and therefore they gain better insight of themselves.

Pranayama is also the key to unlocking the next layers of practising Yoga. Yoga helps to maintain a healthy body, mind and soul and it forms one of the eight limbs of yoga; the other seven are Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi. For more information about Pranayama it can be noted that it helps to establish self-discipline, reduces the levels of nervousness within an individual and it is also considered as the basic preparation for the higher forms of Yoga.

Yoga Philosophy

According to Yoga philosophy yoga is not only an activity which helps to gain health benefits but it is also a way of thinking and living which can be developed further in the process of activity. It affirms the fact that Yoga is far more than a physical science but actually a noble science of the mind and soul. According to the principles of Yoga, it is possible to reach the state of harmony within oneself, as well as become happier and more joyful, along with obtaining a well-groomed and vigorous mind, a healthy body, and a developed intelligence. By doing so the practitioners have a shot at learning why they engage in yoga hence step up from the physical practices to embrace the spiritual meaning of balance and serenity.

Maharishi Patanjali is considered to be one of the founding fathers of yoga philosophy. His teachings are of Shad Darshanas, which is one of the six classical theistic structures of India. The major source in the development of such philosophy is the Yoga Sutras, which consists of aphorisms meant to explain the practice of yoga.

The Yoga philosophy is called as Seshvara Sankhya or Theistic Sankhya because it has very close resemblance with the Sankhya darshan but differs with it in terms of the existence of God. In this philosophy, God is presented as a separate force that is not touched by the problems of the material world, destiny, or psyche. One should understand here that salvation is not being given to the seeker by God directly; instead, God’s function is to facilitate the liberation of the seeker by clearing out the path.

The Bhagavad Gita is also included in the field of Yoga philosophy; it is also called Yoga Shastra, the script of Yoga. In these texts, yoga philosophy presents the reader with directions on how to achieve the person’s spiritual, mental and total emancipation from the physical world.

Alignment And Adjustment

At some point during yoga practice it is okay to feel a certain level of discomfort especially in the muscles when doing some of your exercises. This is done to cater for the movement and so there is no need to panic or be worried since it is your own body.

Yoga beginners, intermediates, and even the experienced ones may at one time or the other feel a slight pain or a twinge of an injury at a certain asana pose. But don’t be scared! Thus, to avoid such risks, alignment classes are created to help.

In an alignment class, you will learn how to do the movements correctly, where your body should be placed to get the most benefit out of the configuration and to prevent any injuries. These classes include props at some point such as blocks, straps or blankets, and changes in poses to best accommodate each person.

Shatkarma

Shatkarma or the six internal cleansers are a very integral part of yoga which helps in increasing the intensity of the yoga. This one appeals to different systems in the body such as the sensory system, the digestive system, the circulatory system, and the respiratory system among others thereby making the whole experience of yoga more rewarding.

The term "Shatkarma" is derived from two Sanskrit words: The symbols used are “Shat” which means six, the other symbol is “Karma” which means action. The term Shatkarma means ‘six actions. ’ It involves six particular yogic actions that aim at purifying and cleaning the physical body so that it could become a conducive ground for other advanced yoga practices. As Maharishi Gheranda has spelt out in the Gherand Samhita, it includes Shatkarma which is basic to the yogic way of life.

Maharishi Gheranda states that anyone who wants to succeed in Yoga has to perform the Shatkarma. Other Two aspects of Yoga These practices are viewed as a necessary procedure for purifying the body, before an individual can progress towards other levels of Yoga. The Shatkarma purifies the body and mind; it thus facilitates the transition of the practitioners from one stage to the other of yoga practice starting from the physical to the spiritual levels. Based on the incorporation of Shatkarma, the following are the benefits of incorporating shatkarma to the practice of yoga In other words, it improves the balance and effectiveness of the practice of yoga for practitioners.

Yoga Anatomy And Physiology

The system and functioning of yoga also delineate how and why this ancient art of awakening and union enhances muscles, bones and relates to the body’s structure, in particular, and therefore why yoga affords massive medical and therapeutic value. As a result, through an awareness of the correspondence between the asanas and the body’s systems, physical well-being can be promoted as well as restrictions can be worked on.

Anatomy is a branch of science which addresses the structures of living organisms, and thus helps to understand the internal processes going through the body and the outcomes of each yoga position on the organism. The body is divided into layers and as energy flows in the body is also learned by the practitioner. In other words, anatomy of yoga provides an explanation of how the poses affect as well as positively impacts the body structures.

Yoga physiology analyses the functions and characteristics of living organisms in terms of their cells and molecules. This field aids the practitioners to understand the functioning of the body during yoga practice, the effects of the asanas and the pranayama on body functions. In other words, yoga physiology is a science that lists and provides, systematically, the rationale for performing certain postures and deriving maximum benefits from it in the most correct manner possible. Yoga anatomy and physiology can be seen as two branches of science that give a holistic picture of how yoga Affects physical health at structural, tissue, and cellular levels so that the practitioner will not fail to approach well-being through practice of yoga.

Meditation

Meditation is an integral part of the course and used daily within the programme’s setting. It entails making the mind and the body to be still and to do so, one has to engage in a process that will ensure that it gets to a point where there is no much thinking or processing of information.

Every day of the course is associated with new difficulties and chances to hone the skills of meditation that are crucial to a person who strives to become stress-resistant and to grow as an individual. When these techniques are implemented, the chance of expounding stress free and optimal performance is possible by individuals.

Relaxation is one of the most significant benefits of practising meditation which helps a person to free from the numerous pressures of contemporary society. There are few people nowadays who do not have some sort of mental health problem that affects their daily lives.

Meditation is also used commonly in yoga and those who practise yoga incorporate it in their lifestyle depending on the need because it helps in regulation of emotions. Practising awareness along with one’s mental concentration such as concentrating on the breath or the sounds that one can hear within meditation brings about deep realisations and serenity. Real meditative state is when there is presence and mime of no association with physical surroundings which implies that one is fully mindful.

Focusing on the long-term procedure, the meditation prepares the person to have a stronger, calm state of mind and be capable of facing daily problems with fewer disturbances. This practice does not only improve one’s quality of life, but also the quality of Yoga practice; thus making it an essential component in the practice of Yoga and attainment of wellness.

I'm so happy that I found Sarvodaya Vinyasa Yoga School in Rishikesh. From their honest effort to detailed study, I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great yoga experience. Learned 300 hrs YTTC and yes, they are the best in Rishikesh.

Sarvodaya Vinyasa Yoga School is a thumbs up. I appreciate their effort to attend to each student passionately. Not all schools do the same. I learned the advance 500 hrs YTTC and indeed I am extremely satisfied. I'm thankful for such a wonderful experience.

The teachers are really passionate about teaching and they make the classes so interesting with their stories and anecdotes, especially Sadhu ji . I'm so glad that I found Sarvodaya. The teachers are really knowledgeable and they make sure to explain each pose in great detail. I loved how Tanushree ma’am taught me some incredible and life-changing yoga rituals. Plus, their holistic approach towards teaching really helps in understanding the spiritual side of yoga. Overall, it's been an amazing experience for me.

If you have the opportunity take the leap and attend this school. Their level of dedication, focus, mixed with fun and playfulness is quite amazing. My yoga and spirituality deepened immensely. There’s were field trips and the most amazing food made for you daily. Ahhh talking about my experience is making me miss my time with these amazing yogis. Oh and taking daily dips in the Ganges was such a beautiful thing.

Came to vinyasa Yogashala with zero experience in teaching and leaving with lot of knowledge. Best place for Beginners, intermediate and Advance practitioners to get good exposure .Staffs are friendly and taking extra care for the Beginners. Mind Blowing theoretical classes of Anatomy and Philosophy. Good surroundings to practice yoga. We will get the same energy from day one to end. Supporting staffs are friendly and will be ready to help at any time . Rooms and campus are neat and clean . Food is really good and recommend to everyone it worthy.

A fantastic experience

A fantastic experience. Teachers were so highly motivated and committed to our training. Their experience and knowledge was outstanding and I gained so much, in terms of my personal practice and my confidence to teach this beautiful practice to others. Being part of a group was great and we benefited much from each other. There was also much fun and laughter.
